The Holy Grail War is a ritual in Fuyuki City by magi aiming to reach the Root. Seven magi, called Masters, compete for the Holy Grail, which grants any wish. Ten years ago, during the Fourth Holy Grail War, Shirou Emiya was saved from the war’s fires by the mage Kiritsugu Emiya. Shirou lived with Kiritsugu and wanted to learn magecraft, despite Kiritsugu’s disapproval. Before Kiritsugu died, Shirou promised to become a Hero of Justice.
Now, in the present, Shirou gets caught in the Holy Grail War and is attacked by a Servant. Just as he’s about to die, a girl in knightly armor saves him. The Servant rescues the would-be Hero of Justice, and their fates are now intertwined.
